Isabelle Corral, a 19-year-old from Rio Rancho, embarked on her Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Youth Program journey during her senior year of high school. With no prior work experience, Isabelle was introduced to the program by her grandmother, who recognized its potential to help her granddaughter succeed.

Upon joining the program, Isabelle took the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE), which revealed that she was basic skills deficient. Instead of feeling discouraged, Isabelle viewed this as an opportunity to improve and grow. She embraced the challenge with determination and a positive attitude.

As part of her exploration, Isabelle was first placed at a local insurance agency for work experience. After a few weeks she realized insurance was not a good fit for her although she had learned valuable skills.  During her second placement, she gained successful work experience at Massage Envy as a Sales Associate. Her responsibilities included scheduling appointments, attaching medical referrals, stocking products and handling sales. This role provided Isabelle with hands-on customer service experience, helped her build a resume, and allowed her to gain professional references. Recognizing Isabelle’s eagerness to learn, the program offered tutoring in math and reading. Isabelle seized this opportunity, working diligently to enhance her educational functioning levels by two levels.

Isabelle’s hard work paid off. She lettered as a Varsity Cheerleader, maintained a 3.2 grade point average, and graduated high school. Her experience at Massage Envy became a cornerstone of her resume, and she secured a full-time position with the company. Isabelle is currently enrolled at Central New Mexico Community College (CNM pursuing a business degree).

Isabelle’s motivation drives her forward, overcoming roadblocks and pushing herself to be the best version of herself. We celebrate Isabelle’s achievements and look forward to witnessing her continued success.
